Since our last update, we have been insanely busy making our vision a reality.
To keep costs as low as possible we have done much of it on our own with help from friends and family.
WOW...what a learning experience DIY-ing everything is. Putting your literal blood sweat and tears into something makes you appreciate the experience all the more.
In the midst of working other jobs, we have finished putting the flooring in and painting the ceiling and walls. We have also had some wonderful friends and family throughout this experience who have donated equipment, time and labor. We are so grateful for them, and for you all who are following us and encouraging us along the way!
Most recently, some friends came by to help us take down the awnings on the storefront so I could recover them. It was a challenge working with such a large amount of fabric, but very gratifying seeing the awnings once they were finished and back up on the front of the building. In the midst of that I have been getting the seamstress shop up and ready for opening, and I am finally ready now to accept any and all orders! So far I have taken commissions for alterations, heirloom gown repair, and one guy even commissioned me to recover the seats in his RV.
On the coffee shop side of things, permits are still holding us back a bit, which is why we have not made an opening date announcement yet. However, the space is almost done! We have had an electrician working with us, and this coming week the plumber will be coming to set up everything for our sinks and our coffee bar top is being stained and finished. I would be lying if I said it wasn't stressful. Opening a business is definitely not all sunshine and flowers, but it is exciting to see we are reaching the finish line.
We look forward to our next update being our opening date announcement!
